Support Services

BOCODOL has Five Regional centres, in Gaborone, Maun, Palapye, Francistown and Kang. Regional Centres are organs of BOCODOL operational structure. They take most of the responsibilities at regional level that were originally handled by the Learner Support department before they were established. They possess some degree of autonomy to enable them to carry out their day-to-day activities without hindrance arising from bureaucratic red tape between them and headquarters.
The College operates through a network of Community Study Centres hosted in various secondary and a few primary schools across the country managed through regional offices in Gaborone, Francistown, Maun, Palapye and Kang. The Head Office is in Gaborone.

Regional Centres have the following broad responsibilities:
•    Provision and quality control of all learner support services at regional and local levels
•    Liaison with local communities, schools and other institutions
•    Marketing BOCODOL programs within the region of operation
•    Providing management information to headquarters.

A variety of support strategies are in place to attract and retain learners,
empower them and to mitigate a number of challenges that the learners encounter

These include:

•    monitoring visits and  effective communication  between the Regional centres  and the learners

The Institution through its learner support system offers learners

Guidance and counselling support

The Guidance and Counselling service includes the following:
Under Guidance support mainly covering organisational and management skills such as:                   
•    Planning for a new career
•    How to prepare for an examination
•    Choosing a place to study
•    Time management
•    Study skills
•    Reading skills
•    Writing skills
•    How to choose the right course
•    Coping strategies and other home study methods
•    Under Counselling support covering mainly emotional support manifested by personal problems including Family, health, finance as well as social issues.

Support Strategies for Learners in special circumstances

A stakeholder’s consultative workshop was held in August last year to start the development of a policy framework to guide provision in this area. A Needs Assessment is to be conducted soon.
Prison In-mates
Service is being provided to learners who find themselves in these special circumstances.
